CURRENT COLLEGE STUDENTS
Currently enrolled college students that have completed at least one semester have the opportunity to renew or apply for scholarships through the Western Indiana Community Foundation.
The scholarships listed below will accept requests to RENEW (student previously received the scholarship) or will accept NEW REQUESTS for consideration (student has not received the scholarship previously).

Current college students applying for or requesting renewals must still meet all the criteria for the scholarship. Please refer to the scholarship descriptions listed below for this information. All requests from current college students are placed in the same pool as high school seniors and are reviewed at the same time by the scholarship committees.

  • You must have graduated from the Fountain or Vermillion County high school which the scholarship requires.
  • You must meet all the specific criteria for the scholarship which you are applying - including financial need requirements.

Carter H. & Olive E. Martin Scholarship - (AHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Attica High School and have lived in the Attica High School district for at least 12 months prior to the application. Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher GPA and be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university. Selection is based on academic performance, school activities and/or work, volunteerism, financial need, letters of reference, and written essays.

Elouise J. Shade Memorial Scholarship - (FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Fountain Central High School and must have lived in the Fountain Central High School District for at least 12 months prior to the application. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited four-year public or private college or university and must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Applicants should be majoring in music education, special education, or elementary or secondary education. Priority is given to applicants that exhibit financial need.

Fountain County Instructional Materials - (CHS, FCHS)
This scholarship is for students enrolled in higher education and will be issued to qualified students for the purchase of the required instructional materials (books or required equipment) which are recommended for the specific course that the student is taking. Applicants must be a graduate of Covington or Fountain Central High School and must be a resident of the Covington or Fountain Central school districts for at least twelve months prior to the application date. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student to any two or four-year accredited college or university and must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

Gene and Nona Martin Scholarship - (FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Fountain Central High School and be a resident of Mill Creek Township in Fountain County. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited public or private college or university and must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

Herman and Genevieve Simmons Scholarship - (CHS, FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and/or Fountain Central High School and must be a resident of Fulton or Mill Creek Townships.

Hoffman-Trojan Scholarship - (CHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and must be accepted as a full-time student to any four-year accredited college or university.

H. Wilma Fisher Scholarship - (FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Fountain Central High School and must have lived in the Fountain Central High School District for at least 12 months prior to the application. Applicants must be accepted at an accredited college, university, or technical school and must be pursuing a major/career in "Arts" or "Fine Arts." "Arts" or "Fine Arts" are those majors relating to painting/drawing, sculpture, music, poetry, drama/theater, dance, film, and photography. Other majors considered would be those related to fashion design, interior design, graphic design or architecture design. Priority is given to applicants that exhibit financial need.

James D. Fenters, Ph.D. Scholarship - (AHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Attica High School and must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be ranked in the top 20% of their class based on GPA and must have an SAT score of at least 1500. Applicants must have participated in at least one school activity such as athletics, band, student government, etc. and must have participated in at least one non-school activity such as work, church activities, community service, etc.

Judith Woodrow Scholarship - (CHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and must be accepted as a full-time student to any accredited college or university. Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA and must be pursuing a degree in teacher education.

Kevin and Marilyn Woodrow Scholarship - (CHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and must be a resident of the Covington school district for at least twelve months prior to the application date. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student to any four-year accredited college or university and must be in the top 50% of their senior class based on GPA.

MasterGuard Scholarship - (AHS, CHS, FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Attica, Covington or Fountain Central High Schools and must live in AHS, CHS, or FCHS school districts. Applicants must be pursuing a degree for Automotive Vocational or Mechanical Engineering.

Rafferty Memorial Scholarship - (FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Fountain Central High School, must be a resident of Cain Township and Hillsboro, IN, and must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or technical school.

Reagan and Hazel Mallett Memorial Schola - (AHS, CHS, FCHS)
This scholarship is for students who will learn the business and economic principles behind running agricultural related businesses. Applicants must be a graduate of a Fountain County public high school and must be a resident of the Fountain County school districts for at least twelve months prior to the application date. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student to any four-year accredited college or university and must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Applicants must be majoring in agriculture business operations or agriculture economics. Priority is given to those who exhibit financial need.

Richard Ashton Scholarship - (CHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and must be a resident of the Covington school district for at least twelve months prior to the application date. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student to accredited college, university, or vocational school and must be in the top 50% of their senior class based on GPA.

Rick Williams Memorial Scholarship - (AHS, CHS, FCHS, SHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Attica, Covington, Fountain Central, or Seeger High Schools and must be a resident of the Fountain or Warren Counties for at least twelve months prior to the application date. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student to accredited college, university, or vocational school. Priority given to children or grandchildren of employees of Old National Bank located in Fountain or Warren Counties.

Steel Grip Scholarship - (CHS, FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington or Fountain Central High School and must be accepted as a full-time student to an accredited four-year college or university. Preference given to children or grandchildren of employees of Steel Grip.

Jim & Martha Wallace Scholarship - (CHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student or part-time student at Danville Area Community College (minimum of 9 credit hours) and must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Preference is given to students majoring in a music related degree path, but is not required. A music degree path would include music performance, music education, music composition, music business and/or music administration, or other music related degrees such as music therapy, musical theater, music theory, music history, music production, conducting, arranging, audio production, church music, jazz performance, film scoring and pedagogy.

William & Nellie Hendrix Scholarship - (NVHS, SVHS)
Provides scholarships to graduates of South Vermillion and North Vermillion High School who have a GPA of 2.0 and above, submit financial need requirements and exhibit strong academic performance.

Pay-It-Forward Scholarship - (AHS, CHS, FCHS)
The applicant(s) must be a prior scholarship recipeint with a minimum of a 2.50 college GPA. The applicant(s) must be accepted as a part-time (min of 6 hrs) or full-time (min of 12 hrs) student at any accredited two-year trade or technical school or two-year community college (maximum of 4 semesters) in the United States. Trade or technical pathways may include, but not limited to, aviation, machining, dental, electrical, welding, medical, plumbing, robotics, construction, and the like. Financial Need is required. An Expected Family Contributed (EFC) amount from the Educationquest.org website is required. Letters of reference are required. The scholarship is renewable (two-year equilvant total).

Carl Swinford Memorial Scholarship - (NVHS, SVHS)
Applicants must be a South Vermillion or North Vermillion High school senior through college junior pursuing any ag-related field of study at a trade school, community college, two or four-year college or university in the United States. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. With more than 250 ag-related careers ranging from business management to biochemistry to vet and plant science to diesel mechanics, the possibilities in agriculture are endless. Are you pursuing a career in accounting, business administration, veterinary, ag education, agronomy, truck driving, electrician, or welding? Ag is everywhere and in so many careers whether directly or indirectly related. Financial need is not a factor in determining the recipient of this scholarship. This scholarship is renewable. 4-H, FFA or ag related work experience is helpful, but not necessary. Applicants that are not pursuing an ag related field of study are still encouraged to apply based on 4-H and/or FFA experience.

William, Johanna, & Mario Wilson Family Scholarship - (NVHS, SVHS)
Must be a previous recipient. The minimum grade point average for renewing applicants is 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. The applicant(s) must be a full-time (minimum of 12 hours) student at an accredited two-year or four-year public or private college or university or vocational trade school, with preference to an institution located in Indiana. Financial need is considered in the renewal process. An Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount obtained from the EducationQuest.org website is required on the application.

Hoffman-Aesculapian Scholarship - (CHS)
This scholarship is for those wishing to become a nurse or a medical doctor. This scholarship is not for those pursuing degrees in physical therapy, athletic training, or veterinary medicine. Applicants must be a graduate of Covington High School and must be accepted as a full-time student to an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in medicine (medical doctor) or nursing.

Jerri Purgason Memorial Scholarship - (AHS, CHS, FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of a Fountain County High School and must be seeking a degree in the medical field. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled at an accredited college or university or medical school and priority given to upperclassman students enrolled or enrolling in medical school.

Paul G. Ingersoll Scholarship - (FCHS)
Applicants must be a graduate of Fountain Central High School, must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited four-year public or private college or university, and must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Priority is given to students that exhibit financial need. Applicants must submit a minimum of two Evaluations/Recommendations.

Margaret Bates Memorial Scholarship - (SVHS)
Scholarship is for South Vermillion graduating seniors wishing to pursue a career in teaching, preference given to those going into Elementary Education. Applicant must have a grade point average of B (3.0) or better, demonstrated leadership qualities in school and the community and show financial need. Applicant must also plan to attend an Indiana college or university.

Shirley Moore Scholarship - (NVHS)
This scholarship is open to all North Vermillion High School seniors who are entering the field of education. Applicant must be entering the field of Education, already in the course of an Education Degree, or working on a post-graduate degree in Education. The applicant must exhibit characteristics of initiative, commitment and a positive attitude toward education. Applicant must demonstrate positive-impact involvement in school and community, success in scholarship and or job as determined through letters of recommendation. The applicant must submit an explanation of career goals and background information. Two letters of recommendation from choice of high school teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or individual with significant knowledge of applicants experience and involvement.

TM & LR Memorial Medical Scholarship - (CHS)
The applicant must have attended Covington High School for four consecutive academic school years and a graduate of Covington High School.The applicant(s) must be accepted as a full- time (minimum of 12 hours) student at an accredited four-year public or private college or university located in the United States. Only current freshman college students are eligible to apply for this scholarship with the award being payable for second year tuition expenses. The primary purpose of the scholarship is to provide one-time financial assistance to students in the following Health Professions - Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy or Optometry. The applicant(s) must have a cumulative college grade point average of at least a B or numerical equivalent or higher. Financial Need and Academic Performance are important factors in considering the recipient. The award is a one-time scholarship only. Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

Fountain-Warren County Master Gardeners - (AHS, CHS, FCHS, SHS)
Applicant must be a graduate of Attica, Covington, Fountain Central or Seeger High Schools or home schooled in Fountain or Warren counties. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time student at any two-year or four-year accredited public or private college or university. The applicant must be a member of Fountain or Warren County 4-H. This scholarship is for those pursuing a degree in Agriculture or Horticulture. Selection criteria is based on (in this order) academic merit, financial need (EFC from www.IndianaCollegeCosts.org), letters of reference, school/work activities, and community/volunteer service. The scholarship will consider in the pool of applicants current college students as long as they have met the residency and/or high school requirements, and are considered a full-time undergraduate seeking their first degree. Two scholarships are awarded, one for a Fountain county student and one for a Warren county student.

Vermillion County Farm Bureau Scholarship - (Vemillion County Residents)
*****APPLICATION DUE DATE IS JANUARY 31, 2023 ***** This scholarship uses the Foundation's common application, but be aware it has a different due date. The Foundation is not responsible for applications submitted late. This scholarship is open to any Vermillion County student who is a member (or if a dependent, parents are a member) of Indiana Farm Bureau and will attend or is attending college or trade school. The applicant can be in any year of higher education. One year membership at Farm Bureau (parent's enrollment can be included) is required. ******APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY JANUARY 31, 2023 ******This due date is different from all the other Foundation scholarship applications. No late application submissions will be allowed regarding this due date. All application information, letters of reference, and transcripts must be attached and submitted 11:59 pm on January 31, 2023 to be considered for this scholarship.

Charles Todd Wagoner Scholarship - (NVHS, SVHS, Other)
Applicant(s) must be a graduate of North Vermillion or South Vermillion High Schools or a home-schooled student residing in Vermillion County. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. The student must be pursuing a college major or career in any field as a full-time student. Applicant(s) who meet all other criteria are eligible for this scholarship, however; those pursuing a college major in the teaching profession will receive preference. Teacher education or teacher training refers to programs, policies, procedures, and provisions designed to equip (prospective) teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, approaches, methodologies and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school, and wider community.

Dr. Robert E. & Marceline A. Dicks Medical School Scholarship - (CHS)
The applicant(s) must have attended Covington High School for four consecutive academic school years. The applicant(s) must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited State of Indiana medical school and be in good academic standing. The purpose of the scholarship is to cover the cost of one year tuition to medical school. The scholarship is not renewable and previous recipients are not eligible to reapply.
