"College Funding Estimator"
INSTRUCTIONS
[ - The College Funding Estimator must be completed prior to submitting your scholarship applications. ]
Analysis of financial resources available to help fund postsecondary education is of great benefit to students planning to continue their education after high school. The Western Indiana Community Foundation recommends all students complete a College Funding Estimator. The College Funding Estimator estimates the results of your FAFSA (the application for federal, state, and college-based financial aid). The Estimator will give you an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount in addition to cost of attendance numbers for college and universities you pick. The information will help you understand the process of the FAFSA application and help you plan financially for college. It is strongly recommended that all students at any high school grade level in Fountain and Vermillion Counties take advantage of the College Funding estimator and the other information available through the EducationQuest website.
Any student that is applying for a scholarship through the Western Indiana Community Foundation that includes financial need as any part of the selection criteria, is required to enter the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount figured by the College Funding Estimator through Education Quest Foundation. You will be considered ineligible for need-based scholarships if this step is not completed.
Below are instructions to help you complete the College Funding Estimator online:
  1. Gather the following information: - Your and your parents federal tax return and W-2s - Birth dates - Dates parents were married, separated, divorced or widowed - Value of checking/savings accounts and investments - Value of business or investment farm - Child support paid or received - Workers compensation benefits - Other untaxed income such as housing/food/living allowance for clergy - Veteran’s non-education benefits
  2. Go to the EducationQuest website (link is listed below) and complete the College Funding Estimator (select - “estimate the results of your 2020-2021 FAFSA”).
  3. When finished entering data you will get the “College Funding Estimator Results”. Make a note of your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number and then enter any colleges (up to three) if you would like to see an estimated cost of education.
  4. Save your College Funding Estimator report by clicking the “Print/Save PDF” box and save the file on your computer where you can retrieve it. You will be asked to attach the Estimator PDF to confirm your entered EFC amount.
