Vermillion County Community Foundation Awards $25,000 Grant to Expand Childcare Services at Valley Child Development Center

The Vermillion County Community Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to Valley Child Development Center to support the expansion of its facility and services to include a classroom for 2-year-old children.

“We are incredibly grateful to receive this $25,000 grant,” said Jennifer Short, Director of Valley Child Development Center. “This funding will allow us to remodel our facility and create a dedicated classroom for two-year-olds, helping us expand our services to meet a critical need in our community.”

Historically, Valley Child Development Center has served children ages 3 to 11, but the organization has received an increasing number of requests from families seeking high-quality care for children under the age of three. Expanding services to include this age group is a strategic response to an important community need, providing children with a strong foundation for future learning during a critical stage of social, emotional, and cognitive development while helping working families access reliable, affordable childcare.

“For years, we’ve received calls from families seeking care for children under the age of three, and unfortunately, we’ve had to turn many away,” Short said. “This project will allow us to welcome those families, provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for younger children, and support working parents by increasing access to high-quality childcare. This grant is much more than funding for a construction project—it’s an investment in the future of our community, and we’re thankful for this investment in our center and in the children and families we serve.”

“Access to quality childcare is essential for strong families and strong communities,” Vermillion County Community Foundation CEO Taylor Powell said. “We’re proud to support Valley Child Development Center as it expands its services to meet an important need in our community.”
