The Covington Community Foundation has awarded a $21,597 grant to assist in the purchase of a utility vehicle for the Covington Police Department. The new UTV will enhance the department’s ability to access hard-to-reach areas, including the Covington Circle Trail, the Wabash River bottoms, and heavily wooded locations throughout the community.
According to Assistant Chief of Police Scott Brewer, the addition of the utility vehicle will significantly improve the department’s response capabilities. “This UTV would provide us with another tool to assist in rescues, medical events, searches for wanted or fleeing suspects, and locating lost, injured, or missing individuals,” Brewer said. “It will also help us safely transport these individuals back to the nearest trailheads or to locations where ambulances or fire vehicles can continue care.”
Taylor Powell, CEO of the Western Indiana Community Foundation, explained, “We are proud to support this project, which strengthens public safety and ensures first responders have the tools they need to protect and serve the community.”
