The Vermillion County Community Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of a $2,500 grant to Cayuga Presbyterian Church in support of its community food pantry program. This funding will help address food insecurity by providing supplemental, nutritious food to local households.
Each distribution is thoughtfully organized to include a variety of essential items, such as shelf-stable staples like rice, pasta, beans, and canned goods; protein sources, including canned meats, peanut butter, and frozen options when available; and fresh produce, dairy or dairy alternatives, and bread products. When possible, the pantry also offers specialty items such as low-sodium foods, diabetic-friendly options, and baby supplies to better meet the diverse needs of those it serves.
The pantry was created in response to a growing need within the community. What began as an informal effort to assist a few families has evolved into a structured, sustainable initiative focused on reducing food insecurity. In addition to providing food, the pantry is committed to creating a welcoming and respectful environment where individuals and families feel seen, supported, and valued.
“Neighbors in our community were struggling to put food on the table, and we knew something needed to be done,” said Tracy Hawkins, Ruling Elder at Cayuga Presbyterian Church. “This pantry has grown into a meaningful way for us to come alongside families, offering not just food, but support, compassion, and hope.”
The Cayuga Presbyterian Church Food Pantry operates on the third Wednesday of every month from 6 pm-7 pm at the church located at 412 W. Curtis St., Cayuga, IN.
