The Lynnette McMahan Sophomore Scholarship Fund has been established through the Southeast Fountain Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Western Indiana Community Foundation, to honor the life and legacy of Lynnette McMahan. Mrs. McMahan served as a devoted sophomore English teacher at Fountain Central High School from 1969 to 2006, leaving a profound impact on generations of students.
In addition to her work in the English Department, Mrs. McMahan led the school’s Spelling Bee and Creative Writing programs. She is fondly remembered for her special appreciation of students who demonstrated a sense of humor and a genuine commitment to doing their best work. This award seeks to recognize students who mirror these qualities of effort and character, continuing Mrs. McMahan’s legacy as a gift to the community.
When the scholarship is fully funded, it will provide an annual award to one student, selected by the Fountain Central High School English Department faculty at the conclusion of the student’s sophomore year. The scholarship award will be awarded at the conclusion of the recipients’ senior year. The scholarship recognizes students who reflect Mrs. McMahan’s values of effort, character, and dedication.
Eligible applicants must be sophomores at Fountain Central High School, reside within the Southeast Fountain School Corporation district, and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Selection will be based on a range of criteria, with consideration given to letters of reference, community and volunteer service, school and/or work activities, and academic performance.
Contributions to the Lynnette McMahan Sophomore Scholarship are tax-deductible and can be made online at www.wicf-inc.org or mailed to: Southeast Fountain Community Foundation, ATTN: Lynnette McMahan Sophomore Scholarship, PO Box 95, Veedersburg, IN 47987.
