Grants Awarded:

Between November 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008, twenty-two area nonprofit groups are sharing $116,707 in grants from the Western Indiana Community Foundation and its affiliates of Attica, Covington and Southeast Fountain Community Foundations. Grant monies are made available by donations from caring individuals who want to make a difference by improving the quality of life for others.

Latest Recipients:

 

Southeast Fountain Elementary School - $700 to purchase outside security cameras for protection of students, staff, and facilities.

d'Arlier Cultural Center - $2,000 to archive memorabilia from the 1880's through 1970's related to the Booe, Inlow, and d'Arlier families for public viewing and research.

Inspire Now - $1,000 awarded for an assembly at Covington High School to inspire, teach and mentor teenagers to become individuals of strong moral character.

Warren County Community Foundation - $3,000 to create the West Central Indiana Chamber of Commerce, which will include Warren County and Attica. Funds will also be used for marketing materials, advertising and a membership drive in Attica.

Covington Fire Department - $7,000 awarded for the purchase of an off-road rescue/transport vehicle for medical emergencies that take place in limited access areas.

Kingman United Methodist Church - $500 awarded to the Food Pantry to assist fire victims, single mothers, families in need during the holidays and others in the community due to job loss.

Fountain-Warren County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program - $1,000 for school-based program to educate 7th-12th grade students about the negative side effects of chewing and smoking tobacco.

Mustang Mentor Program - $500 for mentoring program at Fountain Central Jr. & Sr. High School.  Juniors and seniors partner with incoming 7th grade students and provide mentoring in areas of time management, organizational skills, good study habits, school spirit and handling peer pressure.

Hub Civic Center - $1,000 for pedestal street clock with chimes in downtown Veedersburg to enhance city beautification and revitalization efforts.

Covington Swim Club - $3,000 awarded for lane ropes, storage reel and miscellaneous supplies for the program.

Attica Downtown Restoration Project - $6,500 awarded to match community donations for the Downtown Restoration Project.

Attica Junior High School - $5,100 for an Interactive Smart Board for the Science Department at the Junior High.

Bi-County Alternative School - $10,000 awarded for operations - $5,000 provided by both the Attica and Covington Community Foundations.

Wabash Valley Health Services - $3,000 for county-wide domestic violence prevention program.

Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry - $1,000 for program to feed the needy in Fountain County.

Covington Elementary School - $1,000 awarded for needy children and families at Christmas.

Southeast Fountain Elementary School - $4,000 awarded for computers in the media center.

Ramey-Gray Lambda Mu Epsilon - $250 for English student scholarship & $90 ceiling fan at Friendship Circle Center.

Covington-Veedersburg Library - $1,125 awarded for summer reading programs at both libraries.

Southeast Fountain School Corporation - $912 for funding of items for children in need.

Attica Public Library - $250 to support a visit by a member of the Iditarod Dog Musher Team.

Covington Circle Trail - $60,000 awarded to complete phase one of 3.2 mile multi-purpose recreation trail.

Wabash Senior Citizens Club - $935 awarded for new desks in the MAC Van office area at the Friendship Circle Center.

Wabash Senior Citizens Club - $2,845 awarded for day to day operations of the Friendship Circle Center.
