Grants Benefit Summer Reading Programs at Area Libraries

Grants Awarded:

Numerous area nonprofit groups have recently shared $62,166 in grants from the Western Indiana Community Foundation and its affiliates of Attica, Covington and Southeast Fountain Community Foundations. Grant monies are made available by donations from caring individuals who want to make a difference by improving the quality of life for others.

Latest Recipients:

Covington Nursery School - $3,500 for general operating support.

Adopt-A-Hydrant Project - $500
for paint to allow interested Attica citizens to paint 128 fire hydrants with the personality of the artist's choice.

Attica North Neighborhood Project - $1,000
for activities to facilitate cooperation among its neighbors and reseidents to make the area a better and safer place to live.

Attica Ravine Park - $8,182
to repair/replace the walkway to the pavilion.

Covington Swim Club/City Pool - $2,500 for supplies - lockers, kickboards, basketball goal.

Fountain County Mentoring - $1,175 for strategic planning expenses.

Bi-County Preschool - $1,000 for general operating support.

4-H Fair's Queen Court - $275 for scholarship/fair expenses.


George D. Hay Hometown Society - $1,442.46
for promotional signage recognizing George D. Hay, founder of the Grand Ole Opry, was born and raised in Attica.  Signage will be placed at entrances to the community.

Attica Summer Parks Program - $707.40 for campers t-shirts.

Attica Wet Ramblers (Summer Swim Team) - $550 for general operating expenses.

Covington Elementary School - $3, 500 for "Hoosiers Summer School" - 60 4th & 5th graders visit historical sites throughout Indiana.

Fountain County Emergency Medical Services - $18,000 for a new emergency medical services facility.

Fountain County Learning Network - $5,200 for adult basic education courses for residents from the Covington and Southeast Fountain area.
 
Attica Public Library - $540 for the summer reading program.

Attica School Corporation - $3,930.  $2,000 for the elementary school back back program, $1,000 for the high school band program, $500 for the elementary school help-a-child program and $430 for the elementary school band program. 

Fountain County Mentoring - $775
for county-wide mentoring services to youth.

United Methodist Church (Attica) - $1,345 for the weekly meal program.

Free United Methodist Church (Attica) - $1,345
for the weekly meal program.

Bi-County Soccer - $110
for a line stripping machine.

Operation Kid Sight - $192
for eye screening of 64 children in Head Start, ages 1-5.  Helps detect eye problems while children are young so issues can be more easily corrected.

A.S.K. (Attica Sharing Kindness) - $2,000 to benefit the local food pantry.

Montgomery County Chapter of the Red Cross - $935 to provide maintenance to the Red Cross emergency vehicle that stays in Fountain County to assist in emergencies and disasters. (Note: Fountain County does not have a Red Cross chapter)

Buddy Bag Program - $1,000 to meet the needs of hungry children at Covington Elementary School when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.  Each weekend, 6 child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified meals are provided to 140 children.

Friendship Circle Center - $2,407
for new computers and general operating support.

Fountain County 4-H Council - $150 to provide supplies for the "Battle of the Barns" event at the 4-H Fair.

Veedersburg Summer Park Program - $1,000 to provide recreational, educational and social activities for elementary age children in the Southeast Fountain School Corporation.

Mustang Mentor Program - $500 for mentoring program at Fountain Central Jr. & Sr. High School.  Juniors and seniors partner with incoming 7th grade students and provide mentoring in areas of time management, organizational skills, good study habits, school spirit and handling peer pressure.

NICHES Land Trust - $510 for general operating support.

Covington Summer Camp - $2,500 to provide recreational, educational and social activities for Covington youth.

Food Finder's Food Bank - $693 to fund a laptop computer to assist in managing food operations to five Fountain County agencies.

Covington Tree Committee - $7,500 to fund the removal and replanting of trees in qualified areas of the community. 

Covington Public Library - $4,676 to provide new computers in the public access areas of the library.
